Maintaining your swimming pool properly involves three crucial categories. Performing all three is key to ensuring your pool stays in great shape.

Chemical Balance:

    • Test and adjust your pool’s chemical levels regularly to maintain balanced water chemistry.

Filter Maintenance:

    • Check your main filter often and clean it every one to three months, depending on the filter pressure and water circulation.
    • If the pressure rises by 10 PSI above the normal clean pressure, or if the circulation decreases, it’s time to backwash or clean the filter.
    • Make sure to empty the leaf baskets every two weeks, or whenever they become full, to prevent clogs.
    • Remember, overlooking filter and leaf basket care can lead to poor circulation and algae growth.

Cleaning:

    • Regular cleaning tasks include skimming, brushing, and vacuuming the pool manually.
    • A well-maintained system with properly functioning equipment such as a quality filter, pump, and automatic vacuum, should make cleaning fairly easy, as it takes care of most of the heavy lifting.
    • When using an automatic vacuum, which is recommended, you will only need to brush the areas the vacuum misses, and skim the surface every one to two weeks.
    • If you don’t have an automatic vacuum, you’ll need to manually vacuum the pool weekly.
